For many members of the Armed Forces community, success in civilian employment is shaped not only by opportunity, but by the people who choose to stand alongside them.
Within workplaces across the UK, there are exceptional employees who go above and beyond their role to ensure that service leavers, reservists, veterans, spouses and family members are supported, understood and able to thrive. They advocate, mentor, challenge systems, and create cultures where military experience is recognised as a strength.
The Employee Champion Award exists to recognise and honour these individuals.
Recognising Extraordinary Commitment in the Workplace
This award recognises an exceptional employee who has made a significant and measurable contribution to supporting members of the Armed Forces community to achieve success in civilian roles. Nominees will demonstrate extraordinary commitment to championing employability whether through mentoring, inclusive recruitment practices, flexible working support, advocacy for reservists, or the development of internal networks and pathways that enable others to flourish.
Importantly, the nominator must be employed by the same organisation as the nominee, reinforcing that this award is rooted in lived experience and first-hand impact.
The Quiet Power of Advocacy
Employee champions often work behind the scenes. They are the ones who take time to explain military culture, who adapt processes to be more inclusive, and who ensure that individuals feel seen and valued.
Their impact is felt in confidence built, careers sustained, and potential realised. They help turn good intentions into meaningful action, and in doing so, strengthen individuals and their organisations.
What a Nomination Can Mean
Being nominated for the Employee Champion Award can be deeply affirming. It acknowledges effort that is often unseen and unrecognised. It tells someone that their commitment has mattered, that their advocacy has made a difference, and that their leadership, whether formal or informal, makes a difference.
Recognition can also inspire others within organisations to step forward, creating a ripple effect of support across the Armed Forces community.
Who Has Made a Difference Where You Work?
Take a moment to reflect on your own workplace.
Who has championed military talent?
Who has gone the extra mile to support a colleague from the Armed Forces community?
Who consistently ensures that service experience is valued, not misunderstood?
Often, those most deserving of recognition would never seek it. Your nomination could be the moment that reminds them just how impactful their work has been.
In Partnership with Landmarc
The Employee Champion Award is proudly delivered in partnership with Landmarc, an organisation with a deep and practical connection to the Armed Forces community.
As a strategic partner to the Ministry of Defence, Landmarc works closely with service personnel across the Defence Training Estate. As a major employer of veterans and reservists, Landmarc actively supports the Armed Forces Covenant through inclusive employment practices, flexible policies for reservists, and ongoing advocacy for military families.
Landmarc’s commitment to creating supportive workplace environments for members of the Armed Forces community makes them a fitting partner for an award that celebrates individuals who champion others to succeed.
“The Employee Champion Award recognises the individuals who go beyond their day-to-day roles to champion those who have served and their families, whether by opening doors, building pathways, or simply making the organisation a better place for the Armed Forces community. Landmarc is proud to sponsor this award because we understand first-hand the value that veterans, reservists and military families bring to the workplace. We encourage anyone who knows someone making that difference to put their name forward.” Mark Neill, Managing Director
Celebrating Those Who Champion People
Employee champions remind us that inclusive workplaces are built by people, not policies alone. By nominating one of your colleagues for the Employee Champion Award, you are recognising dedication, empathy and leadership in action. You are helping to shine a light on those who ensure that members of the Armed Forces community can succeed, and belong, in civilian employment.
So, who will you be nominating?
Now is the time to celebrate the people who make work work for others.
